Isle of Wight Festival 2011

The Isle of Wight Festival is a music festival which takes place every year on the Isle of Wight in the UK. It was originally held from 1968 to 1970. These original events were promoted and organised by the Foulk brothers: Ron, Ray and Bill Foulk under the banner of their company Fiery Creations Limited. The venues were Ford Farm, Wootton and Afton Down respectively.

The Isle of Wight Festival 2011 will be the tenth revived Isle of Wight Festival to be held at Seaclose Park in Newport on the Isle of Wight. The event will run from the 10-12th June 2011. The 2011 event will be the first under a ten-year deal between the Isle of Wight Council and the promotors Solos.

The Isle of Wight Festival 2010 was the ninth revived Isle of Wight Festival to be held at Seaclose Park in Newport on the Isle of Wight. The event ran from 11 until 13 June 2010. The 2010 event was the last in the current contract with the Isle of Wight Council to take place, tying in with the last event for Festival First, guaranteeing festival-goers a ticket for three years.

Isle of Wight - (2008 - 2009)

Isle of Wight Festival 2008:

The Isle Of Wight Festival 2008 was the seventh revived Isle of Wight Festival held at Seaclose Park in Newport on the Isle Of Wight. The event took place between June 13 and June 15, 2008. This year was the first time that the festival was screened live on TV. After four years of highlights packages being broadcast on Channel 4, this year ITV announced that they had won the rights to broadcast live on ITV2. There were live programmes on each of the three days; starting at 11:00pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and contain mainly highlights of the days performances, along with live coverage of the headliners' sets.

Isle Of Wight - 2007


The Isle of Wight Festival 2007 was the sixth revived Isle of Wight Festival on the Seaclose Park site in Newport on the Isle of Wight. It took place between 8 June – 10 June 2007. It was the first festival since 2003 with no official sponsor. The 2007 Festival sold out in a record time of less than five days. The festival once again featured the popular Carling warm beer amnesty, in which people could trade warm beer for cold cans of Carling.

Award:

The Isle Of Wight festival won the "Best Major Festival" award at the 2007 UK Festival Awards in London in November 2007. This beat off stiff competition from Glastonbury Festival, T in the Park and Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Isle Of Wight Festival 2005:
\The Isle of Wight Festival 2005 is the fourth revived Isle of Wight Festival on the Seaclose Park site in Newport on the Isle of Wight. The attendance of this festival was around 50,000, a 15,000 increase on sales of the year before, which was testament to its growing success as a British music festival. In this year the Isle of Wight festival began to seriously stake its claim as one the big festivals of Britain.

Isle Of Wight Festival 2006:

It took place between June 9 – June 11, 2006. The attendance was around 55,000 and was dubbed the biggest festival in England, because Glastonbury was on its break year. It was the last of three consecutive years of Nokia sponsorship. New additions to the festival site included the Bandstand, which allowed local bands to perform, the Carling warm beer amnesty and the Strawberry fields a large area of bars and music venues. The festival achieved island-wide promotion by displaying the 2006 logo on Isle of Wight service buses.

Isle of Wight - 2002

The Isle of Wight event was revived in 2002 at Seaclose Park, a recreation ground on the outskirts of Newport. It has been held annually since that year, progressively extending itself northwards beyond Seaclose Park along the fields of the eastern Medina valley. The event had a capacity of 22,000, however only around 8 to 10,000 attended. Many notable artists have performed since its revival including The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Muse, Stereophonics, Donovan, Ray Davies, Robert Plant, David Bowie, Manic Street Preachers, The Who, R.E.M., Coldplay, The Proclaimers, Bryan Adams and The Police.
